He was born in Germany, where at an early age he was accepted into an elite dance training program. He danced professionally with numerous acclaimed ballet companies in Europe, as well as choreographed ballets that remain part of the regular repertoire of major European companies today. In addition, his choreography earned first-place awards in competitions both in Europe and Japan.
Shortly after moving to New York City in 1995, Sebastian met Juliu Horvath and began his journey/exploration of the Gyrotonic method. Juliu put him to work teaching the method to other interested people who arrived at the White Cloud Studio, while he himself refined the methodology and created the exercise equipment. In 2005, Sebastian opened his own studio, GYROTONIC® Manhattan, in the heart of Columbus Circle.
Plettenberg Movement provides experienced instruction in all the certificate and equipment courses offered in the Gyrotonic Expansion System, both at GYROTONIC® Manhattan and at select Gyrotonic studios throughout the world. Pre-training for the basic Gyrotonic and GYROKINESIS® teacher training courses is taught by Sebastian’s network of authorized pre-trainers. Through his international renown, Sebastian is also able to recruit and host recognized professionals conducting specialized workshops to enhance a certified teacher’s skills and understanding of the Gyrotonic method.
